I wish I could make my dream come true!
We have all felt this and even though our dreams change & evolve as we grow older, but what remains constant is that there is always a dream! And I really believe that the thing that makes life truly beautiful is the hope that one day, your dream will come true.
We speak of drive and motivation, of goals and achievement, of management and leadership but at the heart of it all, is that dream that you’ve dreamt…and that you spend your life working towards.
But what separates the dreamers from the doers?
Why is it that some people achieve one dream after another, while others spend years, if not their lives, working fruitlessly towards a long-cherished dream with no success?
What is the simple secret to making your dream come true?

Visualise, visualise, visualise!
The answer is visualisation!
But what does visualisation even mean?
Simply put, ‘visualisation‘ means forming a mental image of your dream.
But in the context of dream-achievement, I personally believe that visualisation means a mental manifestation of that dream – complete in all respects – with shapes, color, form and feeling.
So complete, that you feel that if you open your eyes, it might be right there in front of you.
But why is it important to mentally manifest a dream? How does that help in achieving it?
Here’s is how!
1) Visualisation defines the borders of your dream
Dreams are hazy by definition.
Strange things happen in them.
They change directions mid-way and live in strange landscapes.
Visualising your dream forces you to challenge that haziness and pick one manifestation. It forces you to give shape to the vague aspirations in your mind and define what your dream genuinely looks like.
It forces you to step out of vague imaginings and half-felt feelings and give shape to what you really want to achieve. You have to ask yourself the hard questions to do this – the why, the what, the when – and that’s not so easy to do.
But this step is integral. Because if you can’t even clearly define what your dream is, then how will you even know if you’ve achieved it!?!

2) Visualisation helps you identify the paths towards it
The analogy is fairly clear – once you’ve placed the pin on the map, the various roads to it become obvious.
Some may be long but easy to traverse.
Some may be short but mountainous.
Some may lead via places you don’t want to go. Some via places you shouldn’t go!
Because it is only when you clearly know where to go, that you can start deciding on choosing the path that leads towards it.
And if you ever go off track, then looking up and visualising the dream will get you right back on!
3) Visualisation gives you courage when things are bleak
The path to achieving your dream will be full of setbacks and obstacles.
It would hardly be a dream worth achieving if it was so easily obtainable, right? But that doesn’t make these setbacks any easier to deal with.
Your visualisation is what will stand you in good stead in such trying times.
It is whenever that you are down and depressed that you need to visualise your dream again in your mind’s eye.
And when you see it getting clearer with every action you take, every effort you make, the joy is indescribable!
So, visualise it now
So, in conclusion, it doesn’t really matter how large, impossible or unachievable your dream is.
Or how small, simple and humble your dream is.
Because a dream is a dream.
And all dreams can and are achieved the same way.
By visualisation, by being able to flesh and out and see your dream in it’s entirety so that it is real to you.
To climb the mountain, you must be able to see the peak…
To get the girl (or guy), you must be able to see her lovely face.
To get that corner office, you must be able to see your name on the door.
And to make your dream come true – whatever it might be – you must be able to visualise it.
To see that dream in all it’s glorious and impossible beauty!
And when you can see it, is when you will have taken the first and most important step towards making it come true!
